Chapter 01

Project
journey

AAFES is a joint military activity that provides its services across U.S. Army and Air Force bases in the USA and over 30 countries. They operate diverse retail channels, from online and catalog to full department stores, convenience outlets, eateries, military clothing stores, and even theaters!
Not only are they committed to delivering quality, tax-free merchandise and essential services, to active, guard, and reserve personnel, military retirees, and their families.
Globeatelie handled every aspect of the projects with expertise and precision.
Not only did we do 42 Turnkey QSR remodels for Travel Centers, we also did an expedited refresh program of 10 sites where Globeatelie executed new interior and exterior finishes throughout the entire center. We completed the Site Scan, project documents and execution in less than 2.5 months
But also AAFES provides a taste of home when deployed abroad and in remote locations.
In this program, we were assigned 57 locations across the USA, each one of these with very specific requirements, to have Popeye’s and Burger King restaurants redesigned and remodeled.

Erica, everyone in the office highly appreciates working with Globeateliê!

Chapter 02

Ga approach

Our objective was to assist AAFES in modernizing their current restaurants to meet the latest brand standards. We offered a turnkey service, which included streamlining the process by conducting 3D scans of each location, creating design drawings, managing procurement, overseeing construction, and executing the project.
Additionally, we utilized tools such as Procore and Smartsheet to record data and manage the various projects and disciplines involved.

From planning

We commenced planning and strategizing for this program at the end of 2022 and began implementing our plans in early 2023 with site scans.
Armed with comprehensive site information, our design and architecture team collaborated closely with the brands to ensure that we delivered the latest in image, comfort, and technology upgrades.

Program
management

Our Program Management team collaborated closely with AAFES leadership to develop a plan tailored to the installations' requirements. We liaised with each Base's General Manager to obtain approval for the works. With these confirmations in place, we were able to establish material delivery schedules and finalize project timelines.

Key insights

Because AAFES is a government extension in the Military sector, the internal Base approval process impacts the schedules directly. From preliminary schedules, we had to be able to re-manage on site start dates – crews and material deliveries – quickly upon receiving each of these sites’ confirmations to proceed.
Security and Data Protection are always paramount, but in this program, both were even more elevated, with deep background checks on every member of the crews accessing the locations and strict recording / photographing regulations.

Chapter 03

Conclusion

One remarkable achievement was our ability to reduce on-site remodeling time by an average of 65% for both inline and end cap restaurants compared to the original plans.
This not only ensured that customers experienced the new environment sooner but also minimized downtime, stock losses, and revenue impacts. We have engaged in projects across 20 different Air Force Bases and 29 Army installations.
